Adobe purchases Day Software for $240 million
On July 28, Adobe (NASDAQ: ADBE) announced the acquisition of Switzerland-based content management provider Day Software (more Day Software news) for approximately US$240 million. The deal is expected to close during Adobe's FY Q4.
The move suggests Adobe is looking to grow it's WCM portfolio further and it's $1.8 billion acquisition of Omniture last September did not sate the software giant's appetite for the content-management market.
"Adobe's acquisition of Day will strengthen the company's enterprise software solutions with market leading Web Content Management (WCM), Digital Asset Management and Social Collaboration offerings," said a press release from Adobe. "This acquisition represents a significant market opportunity for Adobe to help organizations transform themselves by enabling them to create, manage, distribute and monetize content while optimizing the web experience for their customers."
The customer and partner information on Day Software's site echoed Adobe's statement by saying the two companies "share a common vision for the emergence of a new business platform--a customer experience management platform--that engages, contextualizes, and optimizes user experience and interactions to build brand awareness, loyalty and revenue."
If this language sounds familiar, it's because the "experience management" mantra is being recited by many vendors right now--and it marries particularly well with the Omniture piece of Adobe's portfolio.
"Organizations around the globe have recognized the importance of the online and mobile channel and turned to Day as their enterprise standard for next generation Web Content Management," said Erik Hansen, CEO of Day Software in a statement. "We are excited to join Adobe and combine our expertise in WCM with technologies that create and deliver rich online and offline experiences leveraging the ubiquity of Flash and PDF. We believe this is a winning combination for both Adobe and Day customers."
