2009: e-Discovery and Enterprise Search

3. e-Discovery continues to grow

You don't have to be an attorney to know that corporate litigation has gotten extremely complex over the last several years. More and more courts are demanding cooperation around electronic records retrieval. With the entire mortgage and financial services melt down, not to mention the Bernard Madoff mess, the amount of litigation around these issues is going to skyrocket in 2009. It's not surprising that vendors have been trotting out new tools to help streamline the e-Discovery process; look for this to accelerate in 2009.

4. Search makes advances

No matter how good your content management system is, I have always maintained, it's only as good as your ability to find and use the content in the system. While search continues to make some advances in the enterprise, it still has a way to go before it can really solve enterprise search issues. Look for search to continue to evolve in 2009, especially as areas like semantic search continue to develop.
