The content management space has long been characterized by consolidation. Sometimes enterprise users reap the benefits of new partnerships and other times they lose out.

One reason the market continues to morph is that content management is expanding in scope. As it does, it encroaches on other, similar spaces such as business process management, portals, digital asset management and collaboration software--not to mention the markets focused on the growing importance of cloud and mobile technologies.

Even the most mature technologies appear willing to add new layers of capabilities if the price and timing are right.
