Last week, Quark announced it had purchased Florida-based In.vision Research Corporation and with it, its Microsoft Word XML authoring add-in tool. With the purchase, Quark elevates itself from a design tool to a full-fledged, integrated, XML-based authoring environment. It didn't hurt that the two companies had partnered previously with Xpress Author for Microsoft Word, a tool to that helps authors already familiar with Microsoft Word to create reusable XML content for Quark’s Dynamic Publishing Solution. By working in Word, it provides a familiar editing environment, and enables customers to create XML content using industry standards such as DITA, as well as a way to communicate with existing enterprise content management solutions. What's more, since it's Word-based, it should play nicely with Microsoft Sharepoint, a tool many companies are already using.
