Socialtext Delivers Enhancements To Make Intranets More Social
Improvements to Socialtext's enterprise social software platform include integration with Google Analytics, Lotus Sametime and Microsoft Office Communicator.

Palo Alto, Calif. - Socialtext announced a set of product enhancements today that make corporate intranets more social, personalized and engaging. By better connecting employees with the relevant colleagues, information and systems that drive their business, Socialtext's enterprise social software platform is the place where work gets done inside organizations. This intranet-focused release (4.6) also delivers key administrative and analytic improvements that help IT leaders, IT developers and business champions gain critical insight into the valuable work employees perform inside Socialtext.
First generation intranets and portal technologies have aggregated enterprise systems and enabled self-service for IT and HR tasks. They have been document repositories that make it difficult for people to find what they need to get their job done. And since content requires IT's help to update, intranets quickly become stale and outdated.

Communicate and Share
Socialtext provides several different ways for people to communicate across a social intranet. Signals, a microblogging solution, makes it easy for employees to share work, ideas and updates across organizational silos. To help employees see the presence of their colleagues in real-time -- and chat one-on-one within the context of their social intranet communications -- Socialtext now provides integration with Lotus Sametime (TM) and Microsoft Office Communicator (TM). The integration with these two business instant messaging (IM) applications follows Socialtext's current integration with AIM (TM), Yahoo (TM) and Skype (TM). People can see their colleagues' IM presence (i.e. here, away, busy, etc.) and click to initiate a chat.
Signals notifications, also new, allows people to view microblogging messages from colleagues without leaving the application they're working in. Built on the same spec as Gmail notifications for e-mails and IM, Signals notifications appear on screen informing people about new microblogging messages that have been posted. Now, an employee can be working in any business application, and see relevant Signals that pertain to them. This new capability is available for people who access Socialtext via Google Chrome, and can also be utilized on Firefox via an extension. For people using other browsers, the title of the Socialtext Dashboard will now display the number of messages they have missed since last viewing Signals.
The Signals Intranet Digest is a new summary that Socialtext delivers via e-mail to complement the experience of microblogging. The digest provides a snap shot of relevant Signals that pertain to people individually as well as the groups they belong to. The digest also delivers the valuable conversations that ensued around those Signals. This helps employees who may have been away from their computer or mobile device for awhile. With the digest, they can catch up on critical projects, updates and ideas shared inside Signals.
Share and Discuss Rich Content and Media
In this release, Socialtext now makes it easier for employees to share rich multi-media, and have key business discussions around that content. People can now share -- and view -- videos, slideshows, and multimedia with the whole company or specific groups without leaving Socialtext Signals. In addition, they can now embed this content easily on collaborative workspace pages without any technical experience. For example, sales representatives might post a presentation they gave at a pitch meeting, and their colleagues in sales and marketing can openly discuss how they might make the next one better. Unlike e-mail, this information will be saved in the Socialtext platform as long-term institutional knowledge.
This multi-media improvement supports popular streaming services such as YouTube (TM), Vimeo (TM), and Google Video (TM). It also includes presentations, videos and documents from SlideShare.
Personalized Intranet Experience
Socialtext Dashboards are personalized intranet homepages that contain widgets -- windows into relevant content and applications, both from inside the company and on the consumer Web. Socialtext ships with a catalog of widgets that people can add to their personalized dashboard, and administrators can add customized widgets to that catalog. In this new release, employees can now embed widgets anywhere throughout the Socialtext platform -- including wikis, blogs, group pages and profiles -- with no coding or technical experience. This new capability empowers people to personalize their intranet experience at every turn. For example, people might add a widget to their profile that shows their latest Flickr photos, or embed a shared calendar on a departmental group page. They can also use widgets to access key enterprise systems (CRM, ERP, DMS, etc.) from anywhere inside Socialtext.
Drive Business Value with Analytics
First generation intranets make it difficult for employees to find the most active content, and the colleagues contributing to that content. To make this information social, Socialtext surfaces it on personalized dashboards. But for administrators who want to collect more detailed information, Socialtext now provides deeper insight by integrating with Google Analytics (TM). The powerful Google Analytics platform allows administrators to see not just which pages people are accessing, but how they got to them, how long they stayed, and where they went next. Admins can gather information about the locations people live in, the browsers they are using, and even their screen resolutions. These details can help companies measure and optimize their intranets, leading to higher levels of adoption and increasing business value.
Easily Extend and Manage Your Social Intranet
Widgets inside Socialtext support the OpenSocial standard, which makes it easy to integrate with a large variety of enterprise systems, email, calendars, video and photos sites, consumer social networking sites, news sites and more.
