Clearwell Systems announced this week the release of version of 5.1 of its E-Discovery Platform product. The newest version helps companies cut down on manual processing time and includes increased support for forensic graphic files, also known as E01 files and Logical Evidence Files (or LEFs). Brian Babineau, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group says companies are looking for ways to bring this type of processing in-house.

“Several enterprises use Guidance solutions for data collection and the next logical investment is in a product that can process and analyze this in conjunction with other data gathered,” Babineau said. “By being able to quickly and accurately process data in Guidance EnCase images without manual extraction, Clearwell stands out as a vendor that is not only streamlining the electronic discovery process--they are making it much easier for customers to better leverage their investments in Guidance solutions.”

The new product helps companies by enabling them to cut down on the time it takes to process these files, while providing direct and defensible access to them. Among the key features are: Pre-processing filters and analytics along with processing and analysis and review and production. Clearwell plans to roll out the new version at the Department of Defense Cyber Crime Conference later this week in St. Louis.

With companies under increasing scrutiny from government regulators along with growing litigation, many organizations are looking for ways to bring e-Discovery in-house. Companies like Clearwell are trying to meet this need with more comprehensive solutions, but whether any company can be a one-stop tool remains to be seen. For now, though this is a nice incremental release for companies trying to find ways to streamline the eDiscovery process.
