Nuxeo growth shows increasing demand for open source solutions
Open source enterprise content management vendor Nuxeo announced impressive growth over the last 12 months, which spanned revenue, customers and community.
First a look at the numbers: Nuxeo reported global customer growth of 40 percent adding new customers that included Electronic Arts and InterContinental Hotel Group. It was North America where Nuxeo really took off, as North America became the company's biggest market with revenue doubling there. Meanwhile, the community also grew. Nuxeo reported that the number of downloads tripled.
Nuxeo CEO Eric Barroca said the growth was due in part to customers developing applications on top of the Nuxeo platform. One of the strengths of the Nuxeo approach is that it provides a standards- and open source-based approach to content management. Instead of taking what you get out of the box, companies can build on top of the platform using Nuxeo for basic content management services while creating unique applications that take advantage of the openness.
"A modular, flexible content management platform with Nuxeo Studio for configuration and Nuxeo IDE for extensions is very appealing in a marketplace that values cost effectiveness and sustainability for their technology portfolio," Barroca explained.
Barroca also said there was a lot of interest in the cloud product.
In addition, Nuxeo reported that attendance at its Nuxeo World Conference doubled last year and it opened new offices in New York and San Francisco, which likely contributed to its North American growth.
